Richard Todd Adams recently came "full circle" as he returned to PHANTOM OF THE OPERA,
playing the Phantom on the United States national tour. He had previously been on the tour
for all of 1998 and 1999 as Raoul, both with that same national tour as well as the Los Angeles
company of PHANTOM. He made his Broadway debut in 2005 in Andrew Lloyd Webber's WOMAN IN WHITE,
appearing in the ensemble and also understudying and performing the role of the villainous Sir
Percival Glyde. He then was a part of the ensemble of the Alain Boublil/Claude-Michel Schoenberg
musical THE PIRATE QUEEN -- first in its Chicago out-of-town tryout and then on Broadway in 2007.
He understudied the roles of Donal and Bingham in that production, but never went on. A native Texan,
Richard received his Bachelors of Music from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and his Masters in
Music from The Juilliard School. He won the 2008 Jeff Award (Chicago's version of the Tony's) for his
portrayal of Javert in LES MISERABLES at the Marriott Lincolnshire Theatre, alongside fellow PHANTOM
cohorts John Cudia and Kathy Voytko. Off-Broadway, he has appeared in BERLIN TO BROADWAY WITH KURT WEILL
as the Tenor at the Triad Theater, Michael John LaChiusa's LITTLE FISH at Second Stage, and David Friedman's
LISTEN20TO MY HEART at Studio 54. Regionally, he has starred as the title role(s) in JEKYLL AND HYDE at
three different theatres: the Cultural Arts Playhouse in Bethpage, Long Island, Seaside Music Theatre in
Daytona Beach, Florida, and the John W Engeman Theatre in Northport, Long Island. In the latter production,
he met his future wife, Maria Eberline. Other regional highlights include Percy in THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL,
Father in RAGTIME, Dickinson in 1776, and Ravenal in SHOWBOAT. He spent nearly two years with the show 2 PIANOS,
4 HANDS, portraying both the roles of Ted and Richard, with his friend Tom Frey. They took the show to the Ordway
Center in St Paul, Minnesota, to Geva Theatre in Rochester, New York, to the Hippodrome Theatre in Gainesville,
Florida, and to theatres all across Canada. The two actors also starred together in BILLY BISHOP GOES TO WAR at
Geva Theatre, alternating the roles of Billy and the Piano Player every two performances. He was honored to be
the winner of the 2004 Lotte Lenya Competition through the Kurt Weill Foundation, appearing in concerts at
Lincoln Center and in Germany as part of the award. He thanks his parents, his wife, and newborn son,
Nathaniel Emmitt, for all their love as well as a big thank you to all fans and audiences across the United
States and Canada.
